9 to work with a little sore feet. I’ve been reading a lot about barefoot running – e.g. Christopher McDougall’s book “Born to run”. A great read, a good idea. Since really barefoot is just not possible in a city covered with sharp pebbles, pieces of glass, and dog shit, the almost-but-not-quite-barefoot-alternative, “Vibram five fingers” came into consideration. Also because one cannot find a better way to look outrageously like a Hobbit. I mean, look at them! They simply look stupid. But they’re supposed to feel great. Okay, I thought, okay, I’ll make a complete monkey out of me and try them out. I ordered tem yesterday and will tell about my impressions in this theater. Until they’re delivered, I practice running with landing on the forefoot which basically is the deeper reason for beneficial effects of “barefoot” running. But hey, this is not stupid fad, there’s quite good evidence. The best scientific journal on the planet, Nature, published an article by a Prof. Lieberman on barefoot running. Have a look! This forefoot landing is quite strenuous and I will very slowly switch (if at all) from shod to barefoot running. This might well be the biggest change in my running ever since I started in the first place …

ah, by he way, I saw a lot of funny stuff on my way today. Probably because I didn’t have my camera ready. So, stupid, boring, black and white post with no visual enhancements.
